Sea Captains, Sea Maidens, Sea Creatures big and small, Scallawags and Crustaceans alike - all gather here on island time…

Finding your way on-island, the gently rhythmic beat felt crossing the bridge resets the pace and brings with it a sense of “We’re here, this feels so right” and the body seems to know it’s time to slow the pace. Breathing becomes easier, and the sights & sounds of nature tweak the nervous system into neutral. Seabirds take flight and windows roll down, you can almost taste salty air as it seeps in - distant marsh reed wave hello & bare toes wiggle in the gentle breeze. The mystery is revealed in the story you’re writing, your time is now, the world behind can wait. The weary soul unwinds with every smooth, hypnotic curve of Highway 12 & as you travel to the cottage through tunnels of gnarled oaks whose tips meet overhead, dappled light that calms and renews the spirit. Your path is sprinkled with little villages to explore and the vibe is decidedly different here: like minded travelers capturing moments, out biking and walking to shops and restaurants nearby, a sense of community you can’t find anywhere else.

By the time you turn in at Vintage Mermaid Cottage, the sight of it is truly welcome: a Victorian styled, modernly appointed sea-maiden who anxiously watches for your arrival. Just like Sea Captain’s wives watched & waited so long ago; the siren’s song is calling your name as you approach, sings a sigh of relief once you’ve arrived.

We planned & saved & as a family, threw ourselves into bringing this maiden to new life, painting and renewing the spirit of this place, preparing for all the families that would come to stay by the shore and build their own family memories here.

It is our special hideaway, and we want to share it with you.

Welcome to the sleepy little beach town of Corolla, North Carolina, where you will discover our Vintage Mermaid Cottage: a 5 bedroom, 6 bathroom, fully furnished private coastal home in secluded Crown Point community, situated mere steps from your private beach access, guiding you via wooden boardwalks and newly renovated walk-overs to arrive at your wide, perfectly remote sandy beach, the same stretch of sands where wild ponies roam untouched sand dunes, where time seems to stand still and there is always a fresh breeze to take into your lungs. Lazy days by the shore mark time well spend with family and friends. The time-tested and windswept cozy cottage, with its whimsical hand painted furniture and rooms adorned with undersea murals, is a place where imagination takes hold of your inner mermaid and pirate dreams and, no matter your age, seems to fill you with the energy of the sea the moment you step inside. Meet your hosts: Randy & Natalie Hall

We are a family of beach lovers, a surfer / retired Air Force member & an interior designer, living in Yorktown, Virginia but feel the call of the Outer Banks so often that we decided it would make sense to find a place to call home here, to settle in and share our love for the island with others looking for a place to build a sandcastle or two ….

 

Getting here is half the fun

Once you arrive on island, the cottage is only about a half an hour ride up Highway 12, but slow down, be sure to take time to stop along the way at some of the many farmer’s markets and roadside attractions along the way. Pick up fresh peaches, a gallon of blueberry cider and steaming hot herbed Italian bread from Morris’s, or score a fresh berry pie from Grandy Market, get your last gas up at Royal Farms and tune the radio to 102.5, the vibe is coastal and time starts to skew in favor of fun. Don’t miss the chance to take in local variety of wines at Sanctuary Vineyards, tasting flights are always a favorite, and that empty Mermaid wine rack at the cottage is feeling lonely…
